Don’t try to cheat the system and try to get instantly attract thousands of followers sozialy. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Unless you are a celebrity who has built up a vast audience in some other media channel, attracting followers is going to take time and effort but the investment will be worth it.
What about buying followers? After all, there are lots of people promoting this kind of service.
The first reason you wouldn’t want to do this is because it goes against the Twitter rules. But worse than that is the fact these so-called followers have absolutely no affinity, connection or interest in you or your business. It would be like your company sending a direct mailing to an un-targeted, generic list. The list would be worthless.
Instead of using these supposedly fast-track ways of building up your follower count, I want to share with you some of my favourite proven ways you can get more loyal twitter followers.
My idea is: you don’t need a million followers to promote your business online. Why? Because if you look at the list of Twitter users with the most followers you will that almost everyone on that list is a celebrity. Those people did not build their lists from scratch on Twitter! No way! These celebrities have been building their audience for years before Twitter became popular! So when they go onto Twitter, they automatically built a long list of followers because they were already famous!
Now, you may be wondering: why shouldn’t I try to get millions of followers like those celebrities?
I am not saying you shouldn’t get millions. What I am trying to say here is what you need are quality followers. In other words: you don’t need every Tom, Dick and Harry to follow you on Twitter; you need people who are in your niche, people who are interested in the product or service you are offering. Does it make sense now?
If you are a great person, funny and interesting, people with common interests will naturally want to interact with you. Don’t be annoying or nag people, just be like how you would be with your friends and family. If you struggle to get more Twitter followers, start friending more people and being of service to them. Will Smith can get away with talking about who he is having lunch with because it is probably someone awesome – I mean it’s Will Smith, who doesn’t want to hear what he is up to!
However when you Tweet, realize that you are not famous and nobody cares about you personally yet – you have to do something, say something or show something cool, interesting or funny as well as provide value.
This is just how the world works, and Twitter is no exception. If you bring nothing to the table, why would somebody want to be friends with you? Even your friends are with you for some reason – what is that reason? Are you hilarious when you go shopping or something like that? Ask your friends what characteristics they like about you and then work on bringing these out on your Tweets to get more Twitter followers.
This one can actually be really powerful. If you create content for people you follow you not only develop relationship with them on Twitter, but you can also get a backlink to your website, and benefit from the retweeting of your article. Just make sure you get your Twitter name added to the post with a link to follow you if you’re going to do it for free.
Maybe down the road they will guest blog for you in return.
